Dog sledding and snow tubing

Look at those gorgeous eyes!
As part of my journey into becoming a full blown Canadian (I can now cry maple syrup on command and I apologise for everything so I'm half way there) I set out on a very Canadian adventure on Saturday to go dog sledding and snow tubing. The whole trip was organised by the group Travelling Chicken and for anyone visiting Ontario and looking to do some adventurous activities I would highly recommend them. T'was they that brought me to Algonquin that time I saw the moose and baby mooseling. They took us to Sugardogs Adventure in Sunridge to go dog sledding and then to Snow Valley to do some snow tubing and the whole day was brilliant craic from start to finish.

Prepare to be bombarded with dog pictures.

Hiking and canoeing in Algonquin

Sunset in Algonquin park in Fall

I signed up to a trip on Saturday to go hiking and canoeing in Algonquin national park. Despite a number of small mishaps it was a lovely day and a fantastic opportunity to get out of the city and see some of beautiful Ontario. It was apparently the best weekend to see the fall colours and all the beautiful and vibrant reds, oranges and yellows made me desperately wish I was a better photographer. I suppose there are only so many photos you can take of trees though. Unlike the guy who sat in front of me in the car. Apparently his limit is somewhere around the 200 mark.

Bruce Peninsula

Myself and two of the lads drove up to Bruce Peninsula last weekend for the long weekend. This picturesque peninsula juts out into Lake Huron, one of the great lakes, and we stayed in a little town on the lakeside called Tobermory for the night.

Toronto Islands

I have ventured out to the islands twice now. Once alone and again yesterday with a friend. On the first day it was overcast and I still managed to get burned to a crisp. Yesterday was gorgeous so I plastered on the factor 50 and only managed to burn my scalp which, I suppose, was an improvement. I do, of course, have a sun hat which I very wisely left at home. Maybe some day I'll learn but yesterday was apparently not that day.

The Blasket Islands

Last Friday was an absolutely stunning day. In fact it was one of the few good days we've had in this absolute wash out of a summer. By a stroke of pure luck I had the day off so my brother and I decided to spend the day on the Great Blasket Island, a place we camped with the rest of our family many summers when we younger. So up we got, at the crack of dawn, and we drove out to Dun Chaoin to get the ferry out on to the island where we spent the afternoon climbing to the highest point and and walking around the whole island.
