Hiking and canoeing in Algonquin

Sunset in Algonquin park in Fall

I signed up to a trip on Saturday to go hiking and canoeing in Algonquin national park. Despite a number of small mishaps it was a lovely day and a fantastic opportunity to get out of the city and see some of beautiful Ontario. It was apparently the best weekend to see the fall colours and all the beautiful and vibrant reds, oranges and yellows made me desperately wish I was a better photographer. I suppose there are only so many photos you can take of trees though. Unlike the guy who sat in front of me in the car. Apparently his limit is somewhere around the 200 mark.

Toronto Garlic Festival

I've been to quite a few food festivals since I arrived. I think it's a well established fact that I love eating. And luckily for me there was a garlic festival at the weekend 20 minutes bus ride north of my house. I'm definitely one of those people who reads a recipe that involves garlic and quadraples the amount that's called for. Or more. You can never have enough garlic. You need to be able to smell me from 10 feet away when I've finished that meal.

Fan Expo

Fan Expo Toronto

Last weekend was Fan Expo and it is an annual long weekend of all my nerdiest fantasies come true conveniently located in one massive convention centre. It's aimed at fans of sci-fi, comics, anime, horror and gaming and there were also arts and crafts, celebrities, interactive booths and cosplay. Basically a nerd's mecca. A tiny slice of heaven on earth. I'm surprised I had any money left in my back account after it. It spans four days from Thursday evening to Sunday. I went down on the Sunday arriving before it was opened and staying there until it closed soaking up every last drop of fandom I could.
